Wellness & Preventative Care

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of semi-annual physical examinations. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We truly believe that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" (Henry de Bracton).

Wellness Exams:  With regular wellness examinations, our medical team can assess your pet's overall health and potentially identify issues before they become serious problems.  Wellness exams are recommended twice yearly.

Vaccines:  We follow the recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association ("AAHA") for our vaccination protocols.  Our protocol is two-fold, with core vaccinations recommended for every pet and non-core vaccinations which are based on your pet's lifestyle.  Whenever possible, we use non-adjuvanted vaccines which are safer for your pets.

Permanent identification: We offer microchip implantations, utilizing a safe and convenient ISO-compliant microchip system to help reunite pets with their owners.  With our microchips, there is no additional cost for registering your information to ensure that your pet -- if ever found -- can be reunited with you quickly!

Internal & External Parasite Control:  We make recommendations based on the specific needs of your pet, their travel and lifestyle as well and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you which parasites your pets may be at risk for (and when) and the best ways to control fleas, ticks, and other parasites in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.  Our recommendations will be consistent with current position statements of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and AAHA, who both independently conduct research and evaluate benefits and risks of specific foods and dietary protocols.
