Area Animal Groups

Our mountain community is fortunate to have many incredible non-profit organizations that are commited to protecting the health and welfare of our mountain pets, including those who are without homes, are in temporary foster care or who are lucky enough to have forever homes.  Following are links to just a few of them:

  • Evergreen Animal Protective League - The Evergreen Animal Protective League was organized in April, 1981, to aid lost, abandoned and suffering animals through rescue, shelter and education. The League has provided a better life for over 8,000 cats and dogs.

  • Denver Dumb Friends League - Founded in 1910, the Dumb Friends League is a national leader in providing humane care to lost and abandoned animals, rescuing sick, injured and abused animals, adopting pets to new homes, helping pets stay in homes, and educating pet owners and the public about the needs of companion animals. The Dumb Friends League is the largest animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain region, welcoming tens of thousands animals to their two shelters.

  • Foothills Animal Shelter - Formerly known as Table Mountain Animal Center, Foothills Animal Shelter is a community resource dedicated to strengthening the bond between people and pets.

  • Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue - Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue is a nonprofit, charitable 501(c)(3) all volunteer rescue organization. Their mission is to rescue, foster, rehabilitate and adopt abused, neglected, and unwanted Golden Retrievers to permanent homes. All of their Goldens are currently in foster homes which enables GRFR to better assess the temperament of each Golden for matching to the appropriate permanent home and provides prospective owners the opportunity to visit the Golden in a non-kennel environment.

  • Humane Society of Boulder Valley - It is the mission of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley to protect and enhance the lives of companion animals by promoting healthy relationships between pets and people.  The Humane Society of Boulder Valley provides shelter and care to more than 8,000 animals each year, with 89 percent of these animals being successfully adopted or reunited with their guardians.

  • Intermountain Humane Society-  This Group provides care for stray or unwanted pets, spay/neuter assistance and humane education. Located in Pine Junction, CO.
